Just when you thought I might be bored of the whole the East Darling Harbour Comp fiasco: BAM - here come two more events:

First up is a series of slide nights organised by the Sydney Architecture walks crew, Eoghan and Simeon, on the roof of the Palisades Hotel in the Rocks. They will be on every tuesday night in October and will consist of four non-winning teams presenting their proposals. Entry is $10 at the door. I am told there will be sangria.

Week one (04.10.05) will see Rod Simpson/Craig Allchin, Mac Intercative, Lacoste and Stevenson, and ME presenting shemes.

Second up is a debate on the future of Sydney’s Working Harbour and the Competition presented by DARCH. It will be on at Tusculum on Thursday the 10th of November. I will have full details closer to the date.

We are back home and while I unpack all the books, put together my kickass Gundam, amuse yourselves with these photos from Moerenuma Park; Noguchi’s last work and only completed earlier this year.

Also uploaded are photos from Nikko, Yokahama, Sendai and Sapporo.

A full highlights package will probably be up early next week.

Uploaded to flickr.

We are off to the Church of Light for Sunday mass.

Anything you want us to pray for?

This little update is coming atcha live from the Sendai Mediatheque.

We ticked most of the boxes in Tokyo, spent a day out in Yokohama to see the Passenger Terminal and of course the Ramen Museum. The Passenger Terminal was a mixed bag - wonderful circulation and rooftop park, mixed with appalling detailing and retrofit retail. Seriously, some of the steelwork is REALLY BAD. Remember when in second year and you were into deconstructionist gear and you made all of your models out of little triangles that never seemed to fit together quite right? Well it feels a little like walking through one of those models; complete with scaled up inaccuracies. It is, however, a fun place to walk through and the park seems to be farely popular with the locals.

Of note in Tokyo was the Prada building - it is as good as you think. What else? The Dior building was a pleasant surprise and Pecha Kucha night at Klien Dythams Super Deluxe was a hoot.

Biggest letdown? The biggest let down was Itos Tods Deparment store. The exterior is nice enough but inside is wretched - why they covered the structural concrete trees with plasterboard is a mystery.

The Meditheque on the other hand is great. It is a bit of a shame they had to put stuff into it as it would be nice to be able to see the columns and floorplates in their entirety. The internet desk is cool though - The Cyber Knights of the Round Table etc.
