Here I was, sitting at home getting all excited about on-demand radio when I am pointed to Google Earth. Holy Fuck. We live in the future.

Here is The Powers of Five: from The Infinite Void to Corona Del Mar:

I am guessing that it will be a little while until the next Five levels of magnification are available to us punters, but you never know - all those CSI-Insert American City shows seem to have access to the technology.

The only 3-D cities I’ve come across so far are Portland, OR, and New York. I expect San Francisco is as well. Paris is not. But Paris and Tokyo are excellent semi-3D (though there are odd juxtapositions when the satellite position inverts 90 or 180 degrees). I haven’t been able to play with it exhaustively yet.

Little Miss Architect - No. It is the whole damn world. Some bits have more detail than others, though, and as Ms Rep. points out, there are only a few 3-D cities at the mooment.

I have to admit i was suprised that Sydney has only crap lo-res data, while at Alice Springs you can almost taste the white, tublular stell of Cox’s resort.

Ah, ‘Powers of Five’ brought back vivid memories of ‘Powers of Ten’ - but it’s just not the same without the spooky Elmer Bernstein music.
